What a pleasure it was to be involved in the Australian Day Naturalisation Ceremony.Port Phillip Rotary was honoured to up to be asked to conduct a sausage sizzle at the St Kilda Town Hall on Australia Day.  Many thanks to all those who made the event possible.  What better way to say,  “Welcome to our new Australian citizens” than through a sausage sizzle organised and conducted by Rotarians?  It was such a hit that I won’t be too presumptuous by saying mark the date in your 2025 diary now.
A letter of invitation from either the local council or the Department of Home Affairs is sent  to individuals who are new to Australian shores This citizenship ceremony lasts for about two hours where there is a formal introduction, speeches of welcome, an address to the participants, the pledge of commitment and the National Anthem.  As the final legal requirement, the presiding officer will ask each of the individuals to repeat the Australian citizen pledge of commitment out loud.  Participants have become an Australian citizen after making that pledge. Each of the new citizens receive a certificate.
