Here is an update for the MacRob Interact Club. We have reached our first significant milestone for the year with the conclusion of our first project, Cards to the Elderly.

Having identified senior loneliness as a rising issue, particularly after the pandemic, our directors chose to try and alleviate this in the community by starting an initiative where Interactees create greeting cards to gift to an aged care, in this case, The Alba just across the road from our school.

The majority of Term 1 saw over 200 Interactees, online and in-person, creating cards and decorating them with positive messages. Students used paper and stationery or designed them online.

On the 2nd of May, the Executive Team, along with Ms Ziyad, paid a visit to The Alba to discuss further steps.  We met with the wellbeing coordinator who gave us a tour of the residential building and discussed further ways to connect with the elderly residents. A slightly longer program timeline was suggested, to foster a better connection with the elderly before we finally gave them the cards. Musical performances at the aged care and a speaker event for the Interactees at school are on the table.

Overall, we finished this first project, spearheaded by our director Shenaya, with high engagement and a mass of beautiful cards. We have moved on with the next project, Children's Picture Books, while discussions with the Alba are ongoing.
