2025 MUNA Reflections and Photos- The Mac.Robertson Girls’High School

Reflection 1:

Going into MUNA as Germany, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect (especially because we’re such a politically ‘neutral’ country) - but by the end of the weekend, I was praying for time to go slower. It was equally one of the most intimidating yet ridiculously fun things I’ve done. I met so many brilliant people - some of whom I’ll definitely stay in touch with - and had chats that genuinely shifted how I think about politics, diplomacy, and the future. A few experienced delegates gave me fantastic advice about future MUNs and uni, and now I’m seriously considering studying international relations… and maybe even becoming a diplomat. Massively grateful to have received such an opportunity! Thank you so much Claire, Samantha, Ms. Ziyad and the Rotary Club of Port Phillip!

Reflection 2:

"Dissent against the chair’s ruling."     "Point of interest."

These phrases defined my weekend on the 24th and 25th of May at the Model United Nations Assembly hosted by the Rotary Club of Woodend. It was a formative and enriching experience for me and my fellow delegates. Beyond gaining a deeper understanding of how international relations operate, I learned how to think and speak on the spot, build alliances under pressure, carefully tailor my words for strategic effect, and form lasting friendships in just two days. This competition opened my eyes to new perspectives and gave me a clearer sense of the person I aspire to become—something I glimpsed through observing the confidence, poise, and passion of my fellow Year 11 and 12 delegates.

In conclusion, the Model United Nations Assembly was not only an engaging and thought-provoking event but also a meaningful milestone in my personal growth.

Reflection 3:

Model UN was such a valuable experience. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, especially with speaking and thinking under pressure. I loved thinking through the perspective of a delegate, and it was so much fun making little 'alliances' with fellow countries and creating solutions together. I met so many amazing people from different schools and made some new friends. It is most definitely something I'd try again!

Reflection 4:

Participating in the Model United Nations Assembly, sponsored by Rotary, was an enlightening experience. The depth of learning was immense—an understatement, really—but entirely positive. Initially daunting, the experience taught me to be fearless. By the second day, I confidently represented Vietnam, engaging in meaningful debates. This opportunity honed my public speaking

and diplomatic skills, providing insights into global issues. I'm deeply grateful for this chance to grow and for the kind, supportive staff who guided us throughout the program. Their encouragement made the experience not only educational but also genuinely enjoyable.

Reflection 5:

Over the weekend, I attended the Rotary of Woodend Model United Nations Assembly. I teamed up

with Shreya and Neha to represent the country of Vietnam (my motherland), which together we were

able to research and gather information to present in the assembly. When I first entered on Saturday morning I was able to see familiar faces but the majority of the people there were from all across the state, so I was nervous to talk. However, as time passed I realised that most people there were very bold and weren’t afraid to speak up! Our team teamed up with various countries and created a lot of amendments that were presented in the assembly. We also made many friends during the lunch breaks which was very pleasant. Overall it was a very new experience for me, and next time if I were to do it again I would totally speak more.
