NEWS RELEASE:
Rotary SAFE Families has been invited to join the Rotary Action Group for Mental Health Initiatives.
As you are aware, our former Rotary International President Gordon McInally has been a catalyst for placing a special focus on global mental health. Mental illness and emotional wellness can be difficult topics for anyone to discuss, as is domestic violence and abuse. It is especially difficult and sensitive to discuss in some places in the Rotary world where those conversations can be misunderstood.
I reiterate what Gordon promoted that we have much to gain by helping each other address mental health and wellness more openly. As Rotary members, Gordon reminded us we have a unique ability to reach out to people who may have no other access to this kind of care. And as an organization built on friendship and service, we can help guide our fellow Rotary members in a trusting, caring manner.
As with Family Violence, we can serve our communities by engaging openly in discussions in establishing a solid foundation for preventative and interventional measures in our world.
Rotary SAFE Families respects that family violence and mental health issues are intertwined. The Chair of Rotary Action Group for Mental Health Initiatives, Rita Aggarwal and Pat Merryweather-Arges, (former vice president of Rotary International) along with Dr David Horgan (Rotary Melbourne and Suicide Prevention Psychiatrist) and Chuck Woolery (US biologist) are planning a series of 4 Webinars for late this year and early next year. Please watch out for easy free registration when we know the dates and times.
