Every so often when you are flicking around the tv looking for something to watch which doesn’t involve all the bad things about humanity you come across an unexpected gem of a film.Such was my experience last night when I discovered this exquisite Australian short file “The Telegram Man”
Starring Australian screen legends Jack Thompson, Gary Sweet and Sigrid Thornton, this beautiful and moving short film explores the impact of World War II on a close-knit Australian farming community. The once popular telegram man becomes a figure of fear and repulsion as he delivers the onslaught of bad news.
All three of the main actors deliver emotionally charged and very real performances and even though the film lasts a total of 14 minutes the characters and story are so well captured you feel you understand every aspect of their experience.
I highly recommend you head to SBS On demand and search out this lovely file – poignant but exceptional.
