TINY SITE FOR BACKPACKS4VICKIDS

Our association with BACKPACKS 4VICKIDS began a couple of years ago when we had Sally Beard the CEO of BACKPACKS4VICKIDS came to speak at the club. BACKPACKS4VICKIDS assist children across Victoria who are going into out of home care,  with backpacks filled with toiletries, daywear, night wear, a soft toy and other essential items. The backpacks are designed for newborns all the way through to 18-year-olds. Sally came up with the idea of fitting out containers so that police and welfare agencies can access the age and gender specific backpacks at any time of the day or night.

Pam Dittmer then put in a grant for $6,000 to cover the costs of a container. Chris Hendricks also put in a grant for $2,000 to cover the costs of some of the backpacks. Port Phillip Rotary and Rowville Lysterfield Rotary combined forces to make it happen. Friday the 15th of September was the official opening of our tiny site to house the backpacks at the Victoria International Container Terminal in Port Melbourne.

At the event Sally Beard CEO BACKPACKS4VICKIDS Bruno Porchietto,  CEO of Victoria International Container Terminal and Sue Foley, Port Phillip Rotary president each spoke to the audience. Following the launch, a very convivial luncheon was held. We know that this tiny site is a much needed facility to support our children who live in the city of Port Phillip.

ROTARY STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Rotexers all over the world guide Inbounds, Outbounds and Rebounds (Rotary Exchange Students) through their year abroad.

Using Rotary’s experience from exchange, we are able to enhance the experience of new generations of program participants.

We were lucky to have Tabatha present her journey as a Rotary Exchange Student at the club meeting.  What an amazing journey she had!  Rotex promotes peace, connects people, enables change by supporting Rotary’s Youth Service and enhancing youth exchange.

Tabatha told us that she had changed during her journey and made lifelong connections. Tabatha sees the future for Rotary as continuing to be a guiding light across all sectors.

TEAM SPORTS: SUPPORTING CHILDREN CONNECT WITH SPORTS

Our annual Helping Hands event is back in October!

Each year, the average cost per child to play team sport amounts to $500. Last year, our Bayside Helping Hands event raised $41,502.45 which enabled us to support 82 children and their families.

This year, we will be welcoming attendees from all of Melbourne South East regions - from Bayside and Kingston to Port Phillip, Stonnington, Glen Eira - and we are looking forward to bringing communities together; celebrating our achievements with you and raising much needed funds to continue our work.

On the night, you will have the opportunity to take part in live and silent auctions, have the chance to win a bottle of Grange and/or participate in our wine wall fundraising game!

Two ticket options are now available:
  • $100 all inclusive (finger food & drinks)
  • $50 for finger food only (drinks at bar prices)
Make sure to buy a raffle ticket to have the chance to win a bottle of Grange! Finally, if you are unable to join us on October 14th, you also have the option to donate to support our work.
