President's Report
I am beginning of the bulletin, to highlight Rotary International's statement with regards the conflict, which has arisen in the Ukraine. I am sure we all have thoughts and prayers for a swift end to this conflict.
‘It is a tragic and sad time for the people of Ukraine and the world. At Rotary, we are deeply concerned by the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and the escalating loss of life and humanitarian hardship there. Continued military action against Ukraine will not only devastate the region, but also risk spreading tragic consequences across Europe and the world.
As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, we have made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. We join the international community in calling for an immediate cease fire, withdrawal of Russian forces, and a restoration of diplomatic efforts to resolve this conflict through dialogue. In the past decade, Rotary clubs in Ukraine, Russia and nearby countries have transcended national differences and have actively engaged in peace-building projects to promote goodwill and to marshal assistance for the victims of war and violence. Today, our thoughts are with our fellow Rotary members and others in Ukraine coping with these tragic events. Rotary International will do everything in its power to bring aid, support and peace to the region’.

International Women’s Day and LIVE LOVE WORK
Live Love Work’s International Women’s Day event has been cancelled so this year's celebration of International Women’s Day will include:
- Sharing stories of women who live, love, work, and run businesses in Port Phillip
- Promotion of International Women's Day throughout the city
- Sharing social media tiles with our community to lift our collective voice to a ROAR as we recognise the amazing women of Port Phillip
I was invited to submit a piece, which will appear on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. I wrote in the first person and it was changed to third person, which was interesting.
As a retired educator, Wendy wanted to continue to put her skill sets and passion for making a difference to good use, and Rotary fitted the bill perfectly.
As President of Port Phillip Rotary, Wendy has broadened her perspective of the world and how we can facilitate change for the benefit of all involved.
“There is wonderful comradery and fellowship in our club, and a sense of pride in what we achieve. One of the international activities we have been involved in during the last couple of months has been administering Covid vaccinations, as well as dental and health checks, to the residents of the villages in and around Balibo, Timor Leste. What a buzz that gave us in these challenging times!” said Wendy.
Wendy chose Rotary as they support local and international causes, with all money raised going to those causes, and it is a totally volunteer based organisation.
Wendy would love you to come to a meeting to see Port Phillip Rotary in action, hear their guest speakers and have some fun. The club meets at 6.00 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Emerald Hotel, Clarendon Street, South Melbourne.
Rotary’s International Women’s Day event has also been cancelled. Here’s hoping that next year events will be live. In the meantime, there are IWD events that are occurring online.
