YOUTH SERVICE MONTH

May is Youth Service Month, a time for Rotary to celebrate the energy, ideas, and leadership of young people in our communities. Whether it's through Interact, Rotaract, scholarships, mentorship, or service projects, we're proud to support youth as they discover their potential and make a difference.

EARLY ACT CLUB AT MIDDLE PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
This is the perfect time to launch the EARLY ACT Club at Middle Park Primary School.
EarlyAct is a Rotary sponsored service club for primary school students that focuses on  character building, leadership and community service.  Students identify and carry out projects that benefit their school, local community, and the world.

Key Features of EarlyAct
  • Target Audience: Students from kindergarten/prep up to year 7 or 8 (ages 5–13).
  • Sponsorship: Each club is sponsored and mentored by a local adult Rotary Club.
  • Leadership Development: Students elect their own officers (e.g., President, Secretary, Treasurer) and run their own meetings under the guidance of teachers and Rotarians.
Core Mission
  • Awareness: To increase students' awareness and understanding of their community and the wider world.
  • Service: Clubs typically aim to complete three projects annually: one for the school, one for the local community, and one for international understanding.
  • Values: Fosters traits like caring, respect, tolerance, friendship, and compassion.

EARLY ACT AT MIDDLE PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL'S FIRST SERVICE PROJECT IS TO SELL TICKETS FOR THE PARENTS' BATTLE OF THE BANDS. The profit from the sales goes directly to Middle Park Primary's School's MUSIC PROGRAM.

INTERACT  AT MAC ROBERTSON GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL

The Interact Club at Mac Rob will be manning the barbecue at Bunnings in Port Melbourne on Saturday 20th June.  The funds raised go towards the cost of the produce for the Rotary FOR A MEAL program. We are looking for a few club members to assist on the day.

SPONSORING A STUDENT FROM ROTARACT IN SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

Our sponsorship of Sreypich Chan will have positive ramifications not only now but well into the future as her leadership skills are brought to the fore. Such a worthy project for the club and Cambodia.

GARDEN IN DETAIL-PARK TOWERS, SOUTH MELBOURNE

Port Phillip Rotary was involved in the creation of a pollinators garden at the Bank Street Towers. The Park Towers MPC site has been going for almost 5 years now and has established well, particularly over this last year despite massive dogs rampaging through at all times and all sorts of human movements.

There are  always have interesting finds in this garden - one of HeartScape  volunteers, Gill, found an onion the other day and we have also found a printer, a street sign, some fitness equipment, a phone, bananas and more! The removal of the 3 established Myoporum petiolatum was a grand idea a year back - they were bullying the rest of the garden. Since removing them the garden has flourished!

As far as clearing dead vegetation, we are thoughtful about what stays and goes for various reasons. Though some plants get a great clip back, we will leave others to die back and create structure for habitat and barriers - eg if a dog runs through and breaks off a large branch we will leave it in place for as long as possible as it will help shield the space while the vegetation grows back.
