The interact Co presidents, Kathy and Charmaine, have been busy writing interview questions and scenarios to present to the 2024 potential leaders. Interact co-president interviews were held in Week 1 of Term 4 on Monday 2 of October and Tuesday 3 October. They occurred during lunchtimes on both days. After advertising to the student body, six candidates were selected after handing in their resumes. Each of the six interviewees were interviewed by a panel consisting of Charmaine and Kathy as well as Ms Ziyad and myself. Ms Ziyad and I acted as observers. Kathy and Charmaine presented the questions, took their notes and discussed the attributes of each candidate with little input from either Ms Ziyad or myself.
As you are aware Port Phillip Rotary has been involved in what the water and sanitation project in Cambodia under the guidance of Darrel. We have been sent a number of photographs, which you rather poignant. They are at once heart wrenching but also full of hope for a better future. With Rotary's continued support, we can help create change.
A self reflection tool for the benefit of all.
DOLLY'S READS
Bringing home the magic of reading
Putting a book in a child’s hand opens a whole new world to them. An Imagination Library delivered by United Way, brings the magic of reading into Australian homes – kick-starting a lifelong love of reading, and creating an evidence-based pathway for a child’s success in later life.
Children that are eligible and registered for Imagination Library will receive a free, high quality, age-appropriate book in the mail each month from birth to age five. Resources are also provided to help engage with the book in ways that drive language development and early literacy.
The board has agreed to donate$100 for the DG Ron Payne's wife, Deb, to her favourite charity. The charity is the brainchild of Dolly Parton.
When children read to a dog, the outcomes are amazing! It is a non-judgemental setting, the children's focus improves, their literacy skills increase and their confidence soars. The accepting, loving nature of dogs gives this program its magic and helps children relax, open up, try harder and have fun while reading to a friendly, calm dog. Woof!
Port Phillip Rotary are sponsoring a Story Dog at South Melbourne Park Primary. Afternearly two years of waiting, our little tail wagger is finally making a difference in the school at Year 2 level. Photos will follow after a visit to the school to see the dog in action. Very exciting!
