I hope you’re doing well and staying healthy!
I am so excited to share my studies and activities with you in August. This month was wonderful for me because I had the chance to join many activities with special guests from Australia.
The Melbourne Celtic Festival thanks our valued sponsor, Rotary Port Phillip, for their valued support of the 2026 Festival We are proud to let you know that we have raised $33,102.00 on the day to support Mental Health Programs through Australian Rotary Health and the Rotary Foundation who provide a range of programs to help the community.
That takes to overall funds raised since our first festival to over $100,000 and you have been with us all the way for which we are truly grateful.
We had many volunteers from Rotary as well as members of the wider community who also that for giving their time and energy to help make this event such a success and who like our sponsors and supported helped contribute to the raising of funds and awareness for the critical programs Rotary supports.
Each year we grow and improve and are proud that, with your help, that we have been able to deliver a professional and exciting live music event in the heart of Melbourne. Over the years we have been able to focus on supporting new and emerging talent as well as
providing audiences with music from our best and much-loved Celtic musicians and performers and with important partnerships supporting the promotion and celebration of Celtic culture.

Project Update for Clubs: Small Comforts from Community - August 2026
Over the past year, the Small Comforts from Community (SCFC) project has been busier than ever. Our mission—to provide care bags and new clothing to patients in public hospital mental health units—continues to grow in impact. We currently support The Alfred (TAH), Eastern Health/Box Hill’s Upton House & St Vincent’s Melbourne & during the year have expanded to include additional mental health wards including Box Hill’s 1East, St Vincents’ Normandy House & The Alfred’s 7W & the mental health beds in the emergency department.

Summary report: Learning from successful school environmental projects - August 2026
The conference, held at Camberwell Grammar School, was attended by almost 160 delegates - including Interactors from 14 Interact clubs in Districts 9800 and 9815, teachers and Rotarians.
The conference was opened by MC Hamish McDonald from the East Doncaster Secondary School Interact Club, with the first session: InterAction for the Environment.
After a short presentation on the topic by the District 9015 Environmental Coordinator, Pat Armstrong, the students were divided into three groups, with each group facilitated by a experienced Rotarian.
In each group, the students were given a handout with the following instructions:
Work in teams of 6-7
Choose a Team Leader - facilitates the discussion and reports back on behalf of the team
Choose a Scribe - uses sheets of butcher’s paper to record:
name of a successful student environmental project of each school in the team
the key learning from that project for each school
Team Leader:
asks team members to vote on the most important learning from the schools
reports this key learning to the whole group
In addition, students were given tips to guide their contributions to their team’s discussion.

Royce Abbey, member of Rotary Essendon and RI President 1988-1989 amassed an incredible array of gifts, mementos and memorabilia during his term in office.
This has been stored and displayed in the Royce Abbey room at International House for many years, however, with a change in administration, this has now been dispersed.
Over 300 items are now stored at the home of Peter Duras, Rotary Central Melbourne {formerly RC Essendon} at 100 Kavanagh St Southbank.
These items are now being offered to Rotarians across Victoria who may wish a piece of history. A donation to the Royce and Jean Abbey Foundation is requested.
