BUNNING'S SAUSAGE SIZZLE DECEMBER

An enormous THANK YOU to all our volunteers who assist on the day and to Grant for his work behind the scene making sure we have absolutely everything required.

We have had quite a lot of fun along with the hard work at our Sausage Sizzles.  It is an income stream that our local community benefit from through charity work.  Well done everyone!

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION AT BLEAK HOUSE
Concentration abounds!
A very enjoyable Christmas Dinner was enjoyed by members of Albert Park Rotary, Carlton Rotary and Port Phillip Rotary at Bleak House on 11th December. Mark from APR livened up the evening with a very tricky trivia game. It was a lot of fun with lots of laughs.  Albert Park Rotary had a gift of a book for all attendees.  Thank you Albert Park for your hospitality.
Stories
FIVE MINUTES OF FAME

Five Minutes of Fame was back for a spectacular pre-Christmas event. Many people joined in for an evening of music, dance, comedy and performance.  A delicious dinner was served and supplied by Port Phillip Rotary, and Grant's SPIT ROAST COMPANY did not disappoint.  Delicious!

For those who were inspired, signed up to perform on the night, ‘open-mic’ style! And there was more! Special guests included the much loved Bum Ladies along with an appearance from Santa.
There were lots of sparkles and good time vibes were aplenty!  The event was free and inclusive. Transport was available for those who required it.

Thank you, Port Phillip Rotarians, for all your effort.  What a worthwhile event!
SMALL COMFORTS FOR COMMUNITY
An update from Small Comforts from Community
A collaboration of Clubs within Rotary District 9800 including lead Club Rotary Hawthorn
Members will recall our social impact project provides care bags as a welcome gift for inpatients upon their admission to mental health wards in local public hospitals.
We’re excited to announce that this initiative has recently expanded. In addition to providing care bags and clothing to The Alfred and Upton House (Eastern Health), we now also distribute care bags to patients at the Royal Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospitals. Over 1,500 care packs are provided each year to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. We also provide basic clothing to inpatients at The Alfred and Upton House.

GRAIN SALAD
Ingredients
  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 small red onion, or two salad onions, finely chopped
  • 1 can of lentils, drained
  • ⅓ cup currants
  • ⅓ cup dried cranberries
  • ¾ cup mixed sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds (pepitas) and pine nuts
  • ¾ cup roughly chopped roasted macadamia nuts
  • 3 tablespoons baby capers
  • Seeds from 1 pomegranate
  • ½ cup roughly chopped coriander leaves
  • ½ cup parsley leaves
  • 2 tablespoons best quality extra virgin olive oil
  • Juice from 1 lemon (2-3 tablespoon juice)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Rinse quinoa using a sieve under the tap.
  2. Bring 2 cups water and quinoa to the boil and then simmer for 10-15 minutes until water is fully absorbed. Turn off heat and leave to cool.
  3. Mix all other ingredients in a large bowl and then add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. You can serve this with some Greek yoghurt mixed with a little cumin and honey if you wish but it's great by itself, too.
