AUGUST : MEMBERSHIP AND NEW CLUB DEVELOPMENT

The Rotary theme for August is Membership and New Club Development. This month focuses on growing Rotary's membership and establishing new clubs. It's a time to celebrate existing members, highlight the positive impact of Rotary, and actively seek new members.
In August, Rotary clubs worldwide are encouraged to:

Recruit new members:
This could involve inviting friends, family, and colleagues to join.
Focus on membership retention:
It's important to ensure existing members feel valued and engaged.
Celebrate the work of Rotary clubs:

Showcasing the positive impact of Rotary's work in the community can be a great way to attract new members.

Develop new clubs:

This could involve identifying areas where there is a need for a Rotary club and working to establish one.

SREYPICH CHAN - SPONSORED ROTARACT STUDENT SIEM REAP
Hello Sue and member of the Rotary Club of Port Phillip
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! I am so excited to share with you about my wonderful activity in July. In this month, I have done many activities through our NGO project and mission. It was a very wonderful activity that will create good memories and experience for me.

Let’s start with my study at both University at PUC and my extra class at our NGO. I have already completed my midterm exam and just received the result. I got 100/100 in HR subject, 93/100 in Microeconomic subject, and 93/100 in ASEAN Government subject. It was such a good result and I was really happy. As I mentioned in my previous email that Microeconomic subject was very hard for me because I need to draw the graph and hard to calculate the answer. However, I can do it even though it is not a very good result but I am happy and accept this score. More than this, I really enjoy and am involved with the ASEAN Government class because we can bring the breaking news around the world to discuss in our class that is really helpful to the students to learn and improve our knowledge. Back to our Chinese class, I can say that it was a wonderful class for me even in the early morning but I still want to join. In this class, we do not focus on writing but we focus on speaking. Our teacher always tries to help us to read and correct our pronunciation when we speak. He also reviews the lesson before class, maybe 10-20 minute to make sure that we all understand about the lesson and we can remember the vocabulary in the last session. I really enjoyed this class because it was very funny and it did not make me feel bored. We always try to read the new vocabulary that sometimes we have wrong pronunciation but we continue with laughing together. Anyway, I will try my best with both my study at University and my extra class at our NGO to get as good a result as possible.

DISTRICT INTERACT CONFERENCE
On Monday the 11th August in front of a record attendance of two hundred and twenty Interactors, sponsor club Interact advisors and teacher coordinators, this year's Interact Conference was successfully held at Balwyn High school in North Balwyn.  DG Peter Shepheard who formally opened the Conference was busy snapping photos during the day. The program included three Guest speakers from Youth Mental Health support team at Headspace, current Rotaractors describing the pathway to Rotaract, and also  a representative of UNHCR ( Aust) about support for refugees.

The multi District Humanitarian project for all Interact clubs in both Districts chosen at last year Interact District Assembly/training day in December  was fundraising for UNHCR and once projects are complete, profits will be directed to UNHCR.

ALBERT PARK YACHT CLUB -WINTER SAIL
Through Rotary's generosity, APYC have been able to organise the WinterSail regatta, giving youth sailors affordable access to training and development by high quality coaches.

It is impressive to see the confidence and resilience gained by the sailors over 3 days, in sometimes challenging winter conditions.

Whilst it is exciting to follow the sailors who go on to successfully compete in the sport of sailing, it is equally gratefying to see the quiet self assurance gained by those sailors for whom completing the 3 day event is a challenge in itself.
