“Working in harmony with each other, and with external groups and individuals, will improve our impact and help Rotary survive and prosper into the future.”
January was Vocational Service Month for Rotarians to take the opportunities to contribute vocational talents to the problems and needs of society. The 5 Way Test promotes high ethical standards in the workplace and is a central theme. Rotarians proudly take this challenge on throughout the year, supporting those both in formal and informal situations.
Rotary also recognises vocational excellence and honours the outstanding contribution by individuals and small teams of individuals for significant advancement in their vocational field.
We have been approached by a South Melbourne police officer to do just that with a community worker he has come across who goes well above and beyond the expectations of her role for those in desperate need. We all look forward to hearing more from both the proposer and recipient this year. Just a taster for what will occur for the 2024 year.

EZEKIEL (ZEKE) MERTON SAMUEL-WILLIAMS
A much anticipated and much loved new addition to our Rotary family arrived 30th December 2023. Zeke weighed in at 3.758kg (7.88 lbs) and is 50.5 cm (19.88 inches).
Huge congratulations to Dianne and Alan Samuel on the arrival of a beautiful, bouncing, baby boy. Proud grandparents are over the moon, as are Zeke's parents.
Zeke is already an international traveller as he was born in America and now resides in Australia.
GOOD NEWS!
Our very own Doug is on the mend and will be released from hospital in the next day or two. Doug has had major surgery with a very worrying complication but will be back in the boardroom in a few months. I am sure that Doug is looking forward to getting home after weeks and weeks in hospital. Judy is delighted that the outcome is so positive. Speedy recovery, Doug!
Five Minutes of Fame is a spectacular pre-Christmas event. It includes music dance comedy and performances. Of course, we can't forget that a delicious meal was dished out and served up by the fantastic Rotarians from port Phillip Rotary. Grant Travell supplied all the food and most people asked for second helpings, so the food was certainly a huge hit. The Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, Heather Cunsolo, Cr Peter had a wonderful time.
What a pleasure it was to be involved in the Australian Day Naturalisation Ceremony.Port Phillip Rotary was honoured to up to be asked to conduct a sausage sizzle at the St Kilda Town Hall on Australia Day. Many thanks to all those who made the event possible. What better way to say, “Welcome to our new Australian citizens” than through a sausage sizzle organised and conducted by Rotarians? It was such a hit that I won’t be too presumptuous by saying mark the date in your 2025 diary now.
As we usher in the new year, it’s an opportune moment to reflect on our mindsets and consider adopting strategies that promote mental resilience. In a world filled with uncertainties and challenges, fostering a resilient mindset can be a game-changer, empowering individuals to navigate difficulties with grace and emerge stronger on the other side.
