APRIL IS ENVIRONMENTAL MONTH
Supporting the environment is Rotary's seventh area of focus. It joined peace-building and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.
Rotary is committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. We empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation to address the causes and reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
The Rotary Foundation in Foundation global grant funding has allocated 18.4 million USD to environment-related causes in the past five years through their support of community economic development and water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. Our Water and Sanitation Global Grant with International partner RC of Fig Garden addresses sanitation issues which affect the environment in twenty-one remote villages in Northern Thailand.
Some of the ways we can work on environmental challenges by:
Protecting and restoring land, coastal, marine, and freshwater resources
Enhancing the capacity of communities to support natural resource management and conservation
Supporting sustainable agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture practices
Addressing the cause of climate change by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases
Strengthening ecosystems and communities affected by climate change
Supporting education initiatives that promote behavior that protects the environment
Advocating for sustainable consumption to build an economy that uses resources more efficiently
Addressing environmental justice issues and public health concerns
Hello Sue and members of the Rotary Club of Port Phillip
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! I’m excited to share with you my activities from this month. I have been through many activities, and it has been a very amazing experience for me.
It will be held at The Prince Bandroom, with a total of 5 local primary schools.
Our school’s Parents Band will be performing on:
Thursday, 4th June (doors at 7pm)
All funds raised from ticket sales go straight back to supporting the performing arts and music programs of all participating schools. Please note: proceeds are shared based on the number of tickets each school sells. The more tickets our community buys, the more our students benefit!
The multi District Impact Summit held at Horsham Town Hall from 27th to 29th March was attended by Pam Dittmer, Bronwyn and Brian Maddock, Christine Newton and Wendy Stirling.
This wasn't just another conference; it's a powerful collaboration where Districts 9800, 9780 and 9510 United for Good.
This year's summit brings together three districts to amplify the collective power and drive meaningful change. The focus was on on the incredible things we can achieve when we work together, sharing our successes, and planning our future impact.
As Rotarians we are uniquely placed to have greater impact in supporting aboriginal people than individuals, we have our Club Community Service initiatives, our District networks, fund raising capabilities and our strong reputation in the broader not-for-profit community.
At RIMERN we’ve learned a lot about the disproportionate levels of hardship and homelessness experienced by aboriginal Australians, the impact of racism when trying to secure an affordable rental or a job, the higher than ‘white fella’ risk of being separated from your children, of being incarcerated, of feeling marginalised and dispossessed.
As a RIMERN member Club will you join us in making a real difference to Aboriginal homemakers? We all know that a secure home is the absolute bedrock of a stable life, without it, health issues can’t be addressed, families are at risk of separation, employment can’t be sustained, education completed…. the list goes on.
We’re thrilled to announce the Linden Postcard Show 2026 Awards, with more than $10,000 in cash and vouchers up for grabs. Thanks to our generous donors, every entrant has a chance to win across 12 categories, including our People’s Choice Award, decided by you. Port Phillip Rotary are proud sponsors of the exhibition.
