January - Vocational Services.
January is Rotary International's Vocational Service Month, a dedicated time for Rotarians to emphasize high ethical standards in business, honour the value of all occupations, and use their professional skills to serve their communities, focusing on integrity, mentorship, career development, and applying expertise to societal needs. It's one of Rotary's five Avenues of Service, promoting professional leadership and community betterment through practical application of skills and ethics.
Key Focus Areas of Vocational Service:
High Ethical Standards: Encouraging honesty, fairness, and integrity in all professions, exemplified by the Rotary Four-Way Test.
Worthiness of All Occupations: Recognizing the dignity and importance of every useful job.
Applying Skills for Service: Using professional expertise (e.g., healthcare, engineering, law) to address community challenges and international needs.
Mentorship & Career Development: Supporting young people and adults through career guidance, scholarships, and training.
Community Impact: Developing projects that leverage professional skills to create lasting change.
Activities During Vocational Service Month:
Workplace Visits: Clubs visit members' businesses or local industries.
Guest Speakers: Inviting professionals to share insights on ethics and their fields.
Mentorship Programs: Launching or promoting mentorship initiatives.
Ethical Discussions: Holding forums on workplace ethics and professional responsibility.
Service Projects: Organizing projects that apply vocational skills, like skill-based volunteering or community training.

I wanted to reach out personally to you all to express our heartfelt thanks for your incredible support of this year's Five Minutes of Fame event. The food you generously donated was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented – our guests were thoroughly impressed, and the compliments kept flowing throughout the evening. Your team of volunteers were wonderful to work with, bringing such warmth, efficiency, and genuine community spirit to the event. It was truly a pleasure having you all there.
I'm delighted to let you know that all the leftover food went to excellent use. We distributed it to The Engagement Hub at Uniting Day Facility, and the clients and staff there were incredibly grateful. They've passed on their thanks and compliments as well. It's moments like these that really highlight the community spirit we're all working to build together, and your contribution made that possible.
2025 has been another big year to remember! THANK YOU for your support and contribution to our organisation and to children and families throughout Victoria needing care and protection. We recently published our FY25 Impact report and I wanted to share some of the great work that has been achieved with your support.
12,449 packs were distributed across our My Essentials, Christmas 4 Kids in Care, School Essentials and Youth outreach packs along with additional baby-care items.
Our generous and committed item makers and donors contributed 436,764 giftable items!
We have been busy in the lead up to the end of year pouring over property data to prepare a submission to a newly announced program. The Energy Efficiency in Social Housing Program (EESHP), a partnership between the Victorian and Australian Government, will deliver up to 45,000 individual energy efficiency upgrades, including 5,000 fully electrified homes. We are hopeful we can help deliver improved energy efficiency and liveability throughout the older social housing dwellings we manage to help our residents save on their energy bills and deliver other benefits, including comfort and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
New Homelessness and Affordable Housing Strategy
We were pleased to see City of Port Phillip Council unanimously adopt a new 10 year Homelessness and Affordable Housing Strategy last week, to which we made a detailed submission in October this year. The strategy intends to champion the development of new affordable housing, seek to protect existing affordable housing stock, and advocate for greater security and affordability in the rental market.
For much of last year it seemed our planet and humanity have been on the verge of imploding… With so many challenges and conflicts all over the world, we feel blessed to have achieved so much in Cambodia this year, not least of which are our 18 university graduates and 10 new students.
